Veronika Deryabina,
a 1st-year student of the programme International Management
I spent the spring term 2019 at Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL). I need to say that the educational system in the university is not widespread in Germany as this private university has its own rules. HHL is proud of its international accreditations which allow students to study at prestigious business-schools in the USA and other countries as well as make internships in leading consulting companies. In addition, many foreign students come to the university each term. HHL has a highly developed system of activities. Various meetings with employers, seminars and workshops were organised. So, for example, I attended a lecture by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
All the buildings are located in a single campus in the city center. A cozy library and study rooms are open around the clock. The school is oriented towards consulting, that is why each course has lots of groups work and several projects during the term. After the course you have a secret peer evaluation. Despite the fact that about half of the students comes from abroad, I observed a slightly biased attitude towards exchange students because it is believed that they are here for a short period of time and they can close missing disciplines in their home university. However, each student has their own personal account where they can see the schedule and download materials and lectures. Lectures are made in a format of discussion, have a group work and real cases from the companies. This semester in Germany gave me reach experience living and studying abroad and communicating with people from all over the world.
