Students from 10 countries came to GSEM to learn about doing business in Russia
On July 9th, the Summer School «Doing Business in Russia: International Perspective» started at Graduate School of Economics and Management. The School has been held annually for 4 years, organized by the Master’s programme International Management. This year students from Croatia, France, India, Pakistan, Colombia, China, Iraq, Gambia, Indonesia and Russia gathered for two weeks of lectures, master classes and field visits that would help them understand Russian business environment.
Over the first week, the participants had lectures by Swiss Ambassador to Russia Yves Rossier, Head of International Management programme Prof. Dr. Liudmila Ruzhanskaya, Director for Economic Policy at Higher School of Economics Dr. Yuri Simachev, and expert in international and corporate law Victoria Rogova. The participants learnt about trends of Russian business, economic policies of the government and legal aspects of opening business in the country.
The master classes on Russian business culture and cross-cultural communication were presented by Ass. Prof. Elizaveta Golousova, and President of Russian Business Association in China Sergey Kolesnichenko helped the participants develop soft skills necessary for doing business.
The participants visited International Industrial Trade Fair INNPROM-2018 where they participated in a panel discussion on digitalisation.

«I am glad I had opportunity to visit INNOPROM through my Summer School Program as one of the main international industrial trade fair. Big exhibition space, many stands from many countries, individual lectures such as Future of Mobility, Integrated Technologies in Industrial Production and Regional Digitalization as a Smart Level Project. Educated, professional and experienced guests speakers, together with very impressive innovations that will change future of each of us left a big impression on my colleagues and me».
The participants also had field visits to SKB Lab and Tochka Bank for some insights on cutting-edge IT technologies in banking and online systems.
During the second week, the School programme featured lectures by Project Manager of the Corporation of Mid-Ural Development Evgeny Trutnev who told about investment prospects of the Sverdlovsk Region, and Deputy Head of Ekaterinburg Administation Sergey Tushin lifting the veil in the organisation of FIFA World Cup events in our city.
The participants visited SKB Kontur for some insights on the operations of one of the biggest IT developers in Russia, Deltaplan Advertising Agency, Rusagro branch in Ekaterinburg, and McKinsey Factory of Lean Production based in UrFU. Other field visits included UMMC and Ural Locmotives to see manufacturing process and learn about the experience of large international companies in the region.
Over these two weeks of the Summer School, the participants developed projects of businesses that could be launched in the Russian market, finishing up with their defense in front of corporate jury and receiving certificates of successful completion.
