GSEM UrFU held a series of international online events
From April 27-30, GSEM UrFU held an International Partner Week and an International Study Tour in a virtual interactive format. The purpose of the events was to introduce international students and partner universities to the Graduate School of Economics and Management and UrFU, as well as to Yekaterinburg and the Urals, local traditions and sights.
"We annually hold networking professional events for our international partners and promotional events for potential international students. The pandemic has made its own adjustments, and this year, for the first time, we conducted the entire programme completely online. This is a very interesting and positive experience, which we will certainly use in the future, " says Ekaterina Demchenko, Head of International Affairs Office of GSEM UrFU.
The geography of participants turned out to be quite wide: participants were connected from Hungary, Gambia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, China, Nigeria, Pakistan, Suriname, Turkey, the Czech Republic, etc. In addition to the traditional presentation of the Graduate School of Economics and Management and the exchange of experience, there were such events as the expert round table "Global events and internationalization of business schools", held by Victoria Beliaeva, Associate Professor of GSEM, Adviser to the Director of GSEM on internationalization; an interactive lecture by GSEM Associate Professor Elizaveta Golousova on Russian culture and traditions. A virtual corporate tour from GSEM partner, Russian Copper Company, was particularly interesting: current and future international students of GSEM were able to see the production online, learn many interesting facts about the company, ask questions to its representatives, and even pass a quiz with prizes from RCC.
GSEM UrFU also tried out new formats – a virtual interactive tour of Yekaterinburg, which allowed participants to create an online tourist route and "walk" through the streets of Yekaterinburg, accompanied by a guide from GSEM; an online master class on cooking Russian pancakes with a brief overview of the traditions of Russian culture associated with this dish; and students of the School prepared and conducted a virtual campus quest.
International participants actively participated in the events, shared their impressions and talked about their countries, cities, culture, sights, events and local dishes, creating a lively international atmosphere and opening up opportunities for real cross-cultural interaction and networking.
"I really liked the programme. Thank you for the organization and interesting events," - said Rebecca Otte, Program Coordinator – Student Exchange Programs, Technical University of Munich, Germany
