"If you doubt whether to go or not, do not hesitate! Just go! It was the best period of my life for me, I met a lot of wonderful people. Now I have good friends all over the world. I fell in love with school so much that 2 months after my return to Russia, I went back to TELECOM to my friends! This trip turned my life around, changed me very much, I became more independent, I learned a lot, gained invaluable experience. Now I plan to enroll in a master's degree in France.
The trip took place in the autumn semester of the 2013-2014 academic year.
I submitted the documents for "Semester abroad" in February 2013. And started working on the paperwork for the internship in November-December 2012. I advise you to pay great attention to writing a motivational letter and be sure to show your letter to English teacher so that everything is perfect. The head of the department wrote me a letter of recommendation. You will also need to arrange a study trip at your university. That's what we'll have to run with. A lot of signatures need to be collected there. You also need to do this in advance, since the study trip order will be ready only within 2 weeks.
All internship documents (motivation letter, recommendation letter, resume, translation of the grade book) I sent it to GSEM International Affairs Office, and then directly to TELECOM, to the center for international cooperation. The manager of International Affairs Office will check all your documents. Do not be afraid and do not hesitate to ask them questions. They respond immediately and in detail.
When I received an invitation from TELECOM by mail, I began to deal with visa processing. I applied for a student visa. I also advise you to do everything with a margin of time (about 2-3 months before departure).
It was very difficult to get a visa. First, you definitely need to go through the procedure on Campus France, which took me 2-3 weeks to complete. After that you can apply for a visa. Everything has to be perfect. I applied for a visa at the Visa Application Centre (Kuibysheva 44). Be sure to make an appointment by phone before going to the pitch. Staff of the visa center will check all the documents and point out mistakes. Then you need to wait. They can call from the Moscow Embassy and ask a few questions.
The type of visa I was given is D, a long stay student visa, for the entire Schengen area.
The business school is located in Evry, 40 minutes from Paris by train. The city itself is small, boring, there's not much to do there, so all the entertainment is in Paris. A train ticket to Paris + unlimited metro costs 7.85 euros on weekends and 15.65 euros on weekdays. Evry has a big shopping center (Evry2), it has a lot of restaurants, a cinema, 200 boutiques. It is located 15 minutes from the school. So it's cool to have a bike there (the school rents) or a car (the school does not rent cars). Evry has a gorgeous big park, similar to Narnia.
What can be said about the country... this is France. This is already the reason why it is worth going there to study for a semester. There are many museums whose entrance is free for students. In Paris there are a lot of clubs and bars where you can dance all night. But the entrance fee to the clubs are decent (about 15 euros).
During my period of study, I also went to the Cote d'Azur of France by car and to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in La Rochelle also by car. It was a great trip! So, if there is an opportunity to travel in France, do not miss it!
The university has: 5 dormitories (the 6th dormitory is located outside the university), a forum (main building, hall), an administration building, a building with classrooms, sports grounds, a gym, a building of student associations, a bar, a dining room, a cafeteria.
Life at school is very interseting! You can choose from 51 interest clubs, which you can join for free. The school constantly organizes some events (Integration Day, Global Village, Ski weekends, Skating, etc.). There is a bar in the school itself, and every Wednesday there is a Beer club. A great chance to get to know everyone. You can just come there and communicate with people, you don't have to drink. Every 2 weeks, Student Association organizes a themed party (for example, Great Gatsby Party, Helloween party, Mafia party, Uniform party, etc.).
There are 6 dormitories on the campus (U1-U6). If you want to be closer to people and to the "party", when applying for housing, choose a building U1, U2 or U4. The dormitories U3, U6, U5 are slightly separated from the campus, but are not far away. The rooms are very nice, furnished with a private bathroom and a refrigerator. All live one person per room. The average fee is 400 euros per month, if you issue a CAF, it will be 300 euros per month.
