Success Stories
Place of study (department, specialty): Ural State Technical University (USTU) , Faculty of Economics and Management (now the Graduate School of Economics and Management of UrFU); Department of Economics and Management of Construction and Real Estate Market; specialty "Anti-crisis management"
Years of study: 2002-2007
The brightest impressions during the education:
«I always considered that the student’s life is an excellent occasion. And I continue to think so and now. Because there is a great opportunity to learn a lot of new things, meet new interesting people with whom you will continue to walk through life, and try many new things to determine what you want from life.
It is not easy to single out one bright event. Perhaps the most vivid impression and sensation from the time of study at the university was the desire to do everything and fill the time with as many interesting things as possible: studying at the university, meeting friends, traveling to tourist bases, sports and the first work experience. Especially on the 4th and 5th courses, when I already had a full-time job that needed to be given a lot of time, the real challenge was not to miss anything»
Appeal to current students:
«I want to say that everyone has their own way in life. The main thing is to understand beforehand what is interesting, what you get pleasure from, what's the matter for your soul. If you make a mistake - it does not matter, because there is time to try something different and get a new experience»
Place of study: UrFU, Graduate School of Economics and Management, Department of System Analysis and Decision-Making; National Research University Higher School of Economics (State University — Higher School of Economics)
Appeal to current students:
«Remember, the darkest hour is that before the dawn. If it seems that everything ends, no more strength — all bad things will end soon. Especially it concerns the examination on сalculus. This instruction was given to me in due time by my commander. In general, the most important thing is why you come here - this is not knowledge. The most important thing is experience. Experience that you can not get even in the "adult" life. Simply because you will not have time to test yourself 100%, to learn something new and see the country and the world — you will feed the family and pay the mortgage».
Place of study: The Ural State University, USU; Faculty of Economics.
«I was always kind of a "C" student. I have "satisfactory" in most of the main disciplines. I was a very pedestrian student, but I passed selections and won contests for chance to hold positions related to the ability to read graphics and tables, interpret economic and financial magnitudes, understand events and patterns, and find a correlation between them. The Faculty of Economics — before all the higher education, which is recorded in the subconscious and subcortex. When I became an entrepreneur, I made decisions based on intuitive calculations that turned out to be correct from the point of view of profile disciplines. The faculty has given me the opportunity to reveal my best qualities. Although they were not directly connected with the economy: I took part in the social and cultural life of the faculty».
Alumni of bachelor’s programme International Economics and Business
«Degree programme International Economics and Business UrFU is a fantastic start for beginning a career in any area. It builds a foundation of knowledge that can be applied in any industry. Graduates of the programme can easily apply the acquired knowledge in any profession.
For me personally, it had created a basis that allowed me to continue my education abroad. «International Economics» offers an excellent combination of lectures and seminars. Professors make every effort to ensure that students can succeed in the future. The variety of additional training programmes is also a distinguishing feature of the programme. Various international exchange programmes and conferences organized by the School allow to smoothly integrate into a working environment after graduation from the University. Teachers and professors are greatly respected, because they do not only offer unlimited knowledge of the theory, but also obtain long-term experience.
The programme also offers an opportunity to listen to lectures and seminars from the best entrepreneurs holding managerial positions in the city and abroad. For example, even during my study 10 years ago Director General of the Park Inn Hotel from New Zealand and graduates of the MBA program at Western University from Canada were teaching in English!»

Area of expertise: Promotion of innovative technologies for the processing of radioactive waste in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants
«In 1993, liberalisation of international trade occurred in Russia. I was lucky to be enrolled to the first group of students in Academic Department of International Economics at Faculty of Economics and Management. Professor Leonid Strovsky, Academic Head of the department, was the pioneer of enlightenment of Russia in the field of foreign economic activity. The country was deprived of qualified specialists and highly needed them, and the prof. Strovsky developed and improved the curriculum jointly with colleagues, trying to fill it with the disciplines required for the market.
Methodology of Work with Civil Code and other legal norms taught by A.V. Shibin, Introduction to Economics and Foreign Economic Activity are among the courses which I remember since the time of study. Then, of course, foreign languages and various applied disciplines, such as Custom Clearance or Contract Law. All this turned out to be immediately in demand, as I was invited to work as a manager of foreign economic activity in a holding company of special exporter at the third year of study. Later I started my own business, and the knowledge gained during my studies did not lose the relevance.
Now I am working on the project dedicated to one of the nuclear energy aspects. I communicate with colleagues from dozens of various countries everyday, hold seminars and presentations from the USA to China while I am in Prague. I feel confident during communication with partners thanks as well to my study at Academic Department of International Economics and further self-education».
