Session on «International Economics and Business: Transformation towards Digital and Sustainable Models»
Research Unit «Global Social Responsibility Excellence and International Business» organised session on «International Economics and Business: Transformation towards Digital and Sustainable Models» in frames of the GSEM’s 13th International Conference, entitled Russian Regions in the Focus of Changes. This research impact session was moderated by Professor Dr. Zhanna S. Belyaeva (Program Director, International Economics and Business, Head of the Research Unit), and Dr. Riad Shams (Senior Research Fellow) from GSEM, UrFU.
The motivation of the session was to present research that offers new theoretical and practical insights on innovative and sustainable international business economic and management models, in response to the incipient trends in technological advances to sustain businesses in the international markets. Different local and international researchers presented their research insights to explore opportunities within and beyond the Russian border, with an aim to collaboratively support the local and international businesses and its key stakeholders.
Professor Lukasz Arendt from the Institute of Labour and Social Studies, Poland presented his study on Making Digital Technologies Productive — Experience of Polish Enterprises. The findings of this study suggest that both innovation and information and communication technology (ICT) use influence positively labour productivity, where co-innovative implementation of productive actions plays a crucial role in firms’ performance. Also, distance to technological frontier influences the required co-innovative sources to keep up with productivity growth. Following these findings, this study recommends to focus on ongoing changes in business environment, where ICTs appear as the driver of the changes and agile human capital and organizational processes are crucial for business sustainability.
Professor Olga Bobrova from the St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Russia discussed on the Ethical Management Perspectives at OMK Group, Russia, as a System of Relations with Internal Stakeholders. In order to streamline the ethical management process, this study recommends to periodically measuring social value, based on the collective contribution of companies’ resources, inputs and processes into the improvements in the lives of individuals and society.
Mr. Andre Nordenstjerne and Mr. Muhammed Jamiu Mustapha from the NRU Higher School of Economics, Russia presented insights on the Modern Nomadism in Russia's Circumpolar North. Their insights are appeared to be useful for both academic researchers, and different government and non-government agencies to plan, implement and monitor the strategic action plans, in order to advance the nomadic community’ socio-economic welfare.
The moderators presented a number of special issue calls for papers (CFPs) from high-impact international journals and series, which are co-edited by the moderators, in association of international colleagues. The CFPs were from the Journal of International Management, Annals of Business Research, European Business Review, Journal of Business Research, International Marketing Review, Management Decision, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, Tourism Management Perspectives, Journal of General Management, and the International Journal of Big Data management.
Followed by the presentations, the research-impact session experienced a spontaneous question and answer session from academics, corporate partners and students. At the end of this two and half hour session, the participants also explored further international collaborative scope to
work together, in an attempt to contribute to the industry — academia research and practice collaboration in international business sustainability.
