Online Public InterLectures project began last week with a lecture by Amin Sokhanvar on FDI in 2020
GSEM UrFU project InterLectures, that is dedicated to 100th Anniversary of Ural Federal University this semester, started on October 3rd. Professor of International Economics and Business programme and Researcher of GSEM Laboratory for International and Regional Economics Dr. Amin Sokhanvar told about FDI in 2020. The lecture aimed to review the effects of the US-China trade war and the COVID crisis on the patterns of global FDI.
«The pre-COVID-19 global environment for FDI was already characterized by rapidly eroding investor confidence because of trade and investment policy uncertainty, and rising protectionism – says Dr. Sokhanvar. – This deteriorating political climate made worse by the pandemic presents a new, unprecedented source of investor risk that is depressing investor confidence to new lows».
The lecturer then proposed actionable recommendations for policymakers to reduce risks and attract, facilitate, and retain foreign investment and maximize its development impact.
Participants noted that the relevance of the topic, as well as how clear and understandable the material presented by the lecturer was.
Alexander Gorlenko, a student of Lingnan University in Hongkong, noted:
«The most interesting and useful information for me was the way to make a country’s economy more attractive for foreign direct investments».
The next lecture of the project is on October 8th. Head of BA International Economics and Business, GSEM Academic Director Zhanna Belyaeva will tell about sustainable development goals and their impact on global economy and business transformations.
Register to take part in the lecture.
