The Case Club UrFU in cooperation with the International Economics and Business (IEB) programme completed a project to prepare novice “CASErs”.
More than 75 people took part in the competition, including high school students, as well as students of the 1st and 2nd year of the programme.
The team of the Case Club UrFU explained why employers hire case-solvers without interviews, how to work with a case, how to organise effective teamwork and to present final decision. At the end of the introductory session the participants were given a business case developed in partnership with the audit company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The participants had to analyse the given market in Yekaterinburg and develop a successful commercial project.
Elena Kabanova, Manager, PwC Yekaterinburg, noted:
“It's no secret that we live in a very fast time. As an expert who has been working with young people for a long time, I was pleasantly surprised and (inspired) by the level of competence and curiosity of the Championship participants. Indeed, today it is not enough for an employee to be just a specialist. The future belongs to those who rely on ambition, flexibility, continuous development and the ability to fulfill their leadership potential. For those who are already investing in their development today! I thank the organizers of the event: the Case Club and the head of the International Economics and Business programme Zhanna Belyaeva for the opportunity to become a partner of this wonderful event! "
Final projects were presented to experts within the frame of the Spring Science Days, GSEM. The jury consisted of representatives of PwC Yekaterinburg, professors of the IEB programme, the Case Club UrFU, as well as IEB programme alumni-finalists of the BCG, McKinsey, Changellenge championships.
We are very glad that we were able to prepare everything at a decent level and, most important, to attract students into the case movement. By the way, it was nice to see interest in the championship among high school students, they are given special respect for their courage and initiative. Thanks to PwC and the leadership of the International Economics and Business Programme for their help in creating such an event - commented leaders of the Case Club UrFU, TOP-5 Cup Ural 2019-2020, 3rd year students of the IEB programme: Lilit Danielyan, Igor Chekhomov, Valentin Voitenkov, Alina Urazbayeva (KEDGE double degree programme).
The participants presented very creative and detailed projects. The level of detail allows experts to judge the high level of preparation of the participants. Congratulations to the Kis-kis team (Ekaterina Kukleva, Karina Faizullina, Ekaterina Pervukhina, Polina Tosova), TEA_m (Anna Lipatova, Veronika Sapogova, Anastasia Smirnova, Gleb Vakhrushev), Insiders (Anastasia Prosvirkina, Anastasia Vakhrusheva, Christina Rabinzon, Artyom Kuznetsov) with the nominations and an invitation to the PwC Summer Academy of Auditing without going through the selection stages.
The UNION team received a special prize from the IEB programme: Sofia Dmitrieva, Polina Kichigina, Dmitry Starovoitov (schoolchildren, Gymnasium 212)
Understandable (Ulyana Bogdanova, Elena Marunyak, Ksenia Chervyakova, Alina Repnikova) and Nota bene (Nikita Skryabin, Danil Toptygin, Vladimir Strebkov, Matvey Ignatiev) teams will receive personal coach session from the Case Club.
At the case championship we got a unique opportunity to create a real business plan in which we managed to combine our creativity and economic knowledge. Thanks to the Case Club UrFU we clearly understood the task and coped with it, despite the fact that this championship was the debut for our team. Also, we would like to thank PwC for the opportunity to participate in the Summer Academy! - shared team members Insiders
Elena Marunyak, a 1st year student from the Understandable team, added:
A wonderful friendly atmosphere, an interesting case, the study of real problems and questions. Moreover, we were not just given a task, thrown into a completely new topic, but showed and suggested where to start, how to do best, what to pay attention. There was no feeling of incomprehension and helplessness - very important. Most of all I liked the participants in the championship: the judges, who supported during the performance and gave constructive criticism, and the team: we became friends during the championship and have already signed up for the next one.
All participants received valuable experience in solving cases and special corporate gifts, as well as excellent networking with like-minded world-class economists! We wish you new discoveries, further successes, and victories!
