QS World University Ranking published
Ural Federal University has improved a number of indicators in the QS World University Rankings 2021. UrFU has achieved the greatest success in developing its academic reputation and the ratio of students to teachers. In the overall ranking, according to the data published today, the university ranked 351st in the world.
The "Academic Reputation" indicator is calculated based on the assessment of the views of researchers from around the world about the best universities in terms of the quality of scientific research. To do this, the rating compilers interviewed more than 130 thousand researchers from different countries. As for the ratio between the number of teaching staff and the number of students, the higher number of researchers per student is an indirect indicator of the commitment of educational institutions to quality education.
"This is a very important achievement for the university, because academic reputation is the most important criterion in such a prestigious global ranking. Here we are growing at a faster pace than many other universities included in the rating. UrFU has managed to strengthen its position, thanks to the ongoing work on the development of international scientific relations and partnerships, - says the Rector of UrFU Viktor Koksharov. — The most authoritative world publications are increasingly referring to the scientific works of our researchers — according to this indicator, we have risen by 57 % (3.4 to 5.3 citations per NPR). All this became possible including thanks to the successful participation of the university in the "5-100" programme. With this project, we have become more competitive and visible in the world. The university will continue to work in this direction, which will allow it to rise even higher in the ranking next year."
Viktor Koksharov also expressed confidence that with the decrease in the influence of the coronavirus pandemic factor, the growth of UrFU in the rating should become even more serious. This will allow us to integrate even more effectively into the world scientific agenda, enhance academic mobility and increase the influx of international students to the university.
In turn, the Chairman of UrFU Supervisory Board Dmitry Pumpyansky notes that the university is systematically working to improve the quality of research and educational services.
"All this allows the university to develop science at the highest level and successfully compete for talented applicants," Dmitry Pumpyansky emphasizes. — In close cooperation with the university, every year more and more companies are interested in introducing advanced developments and attracting qualified staff. UrFU opens and implements new opportunities for the development of the region's economy and solving the problem of import substitution. We are all interested in making the most of the university's powerful potential. And the management of the university manages to successfully solve this problem from year to year. The comprehensive development of the territory for the benefit of its residents directly depends on this."
Let us remind that in March 2021, the university for the first time entered the top 100 in several areas of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. UrFU has achieved notable success in the area of "Social policy and Management", in which the researchers of GSEM UrFU work. UrFU rose by 100 positions in economics (group 351-400) and computer science (group 451-500).
