The autumn season of Professional Orientation Course successfully completed for the IEB newbies
Newbies of the International Economics and Business programme during the autumn and spring semesters get acquainted with the IEB professors and leading companies in the region in the frame of Professional Orientation Course. The IEB office prepared an intensive programme - students attended interactive lectures and useful workshops this autumn.
Alexander Ishukov and Yana Lopatkova gave an introductory lecture about modern trends of the new normality. Vigorous debate took place about the positive and negative impact of trends on the global economy and business. Students also played an intellectual quiz. Ekaterina Demchenko, Head of International Affairs Office, told the IEB students about the possibilities of international exchange and the importance of international experience in CV for future leaders. Students studied partner universities in different countries, prepared colorful presentations as well as decided on the direction for their potential internships within the framework of second diploma and semester abroad programmes. The first English-language lecture was given by the professor of the IEB programme Amin Sokhanvar on the topic "The next big risk." 1st year students were interested in the topic of the risks of investment in the current economy and took an active part in the discussion. Moreover, the professor told what a research project is and how to work with information and data and introduced actual topics in the FDI course that students will get to know in their senior years. Now our young economists are ready to start their research path.
An important component of the IEB programme is preparing students for working with real business projects - representatives of KPMG, Sber and PwC joined the career guidance module.
Olga Perepechina, HR Specialist of KPMG, presented an international audit company, shared interesting insights and talked about the necessary skills to build a successful career in the field of consulting and audit. Students also practiced finding a common language, negotiating, assigning roles, seeing their strengths, weaknesses and preparing short presentations within the framework of teamwork, where they demonstrated creative solutions and shared interesting facts about themselves.
Aleksandra Byvaltseva, Head of Sber Talent Development Center, spoke about the career tracks of economists, the role of cross-cutting technologies and digital skills in the bank's activities today, new opportunities, and imposed requirements in the bank's ecosystem. Students figured out key factors for a successful career start in the frame of online facilitation
Elena Kabanova, Head of the Corporate Services Department of the PwC branch in Yekaterinburg, introduced the IEB newbies to the specifics of an audit and consulting company, outlined career prospects and shared the tips of the work process. As part of teamwork, students developed creative ideas for PwC activity clubs - they presented an educational economic club, environmental, tourism, sports circles, thought out activities for fans of board and online games, and even suggested organising a themed tea club!
Practice-oriented cases and English-language lectures on the International Economics and Business programme are implemented starting from the 1st year so that students receive professional required skills throughout the entire learning process.
In the spring, new activities and exciting events with professors and corporate partners of the IEB programme await students.
