Experts assessed the potential for the development of the creative segment of the economy of the Sverdlovsk region
Within the framework of the XVI International Conference “Russian Regions in the Focus of Changes”, a round table “Creative industries as drivers of regional development” was held. Representatives of the creative business sector discussed the conditions for the development of the industry for the integrated development of the region's territories, infrastructural aspects of the creation of creative enterprises and the specifics of interaction with authorities.
According to experts, Ekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region have great potential for the development of the creative economy sector. The region's competitiveness hidden in its rich historical heritage, the development of creativity in various genres, and most importantly, in interested people.
“The most important thing that the sphere of culture has today is human potential. A large team of thoughtful people has formed in Ekaterinburg, the engines of creative, creative processes, and this distinguishes us from other cities with a population of over one million. The set of projects in terms of its genre diversity, in terms of its volume indicators, such as media representation and project attendance, is larger than that of our colleagues. This gives us reason to believe that the foundation for the development of creative industries in our city is really powerful,” says Ilya Markov, Head of the Department of Culture of the Ekaterinburg administration.
However, experts note that there are not enough conditions in the region for the development of a creative cluster. One of the most important factors for strengthening the creative sector of the economy is the development of human resources.
“The competencies that graduates of humanitarian specialties lack are methods of project management and entrepreneurship. If we talk about the development of creative industries, then this is not an exclusively “dependent” story, when grants and subsidies are given for creativity. The creative industry is entrepreneurship, it should be at least self-sustaining, and as a maximum - generate a cash flow sufficient for development, which can be reinvested in the project. But there are very few examples of entrepreneurial stories in creative industries, ”comments Aleksey Glazyrin, general director of the Newton Group.
The participants of the discussion noted the relevance of the topic of the development of creative industries, as well as the need for a detailed discussion of the identified problems, the solution of which is an important vector for the development of the regional economy.
