The prospects of the video game industry and doing business were opened by students of the X Summer School for master’s students
Immersion in the creative industries continued for the participants of the X International Summer School for Master's students "Doing Business in Russia", organized by the master's program "International Management" strategic session with the creative director of TargemGame Alexey Chernykh.
Alexey told the participants about the history and prospects for the development of the video game industry in the world and in Russia, about new professions, as well as about the business model of the largest Ural developer of video games for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X / S consoles, iOS and Android mobile platforms, as well as Nintendo Switch and Oculus Quest 2 TargemGame.
"Currently, there are three main areas in our gaming entertainment industry: programming, game design and art. We see that artificial intelligence models, including Chat GPT, are developing and becoming more and more advanced. In any case, with the advent of artificial intelligence, new professions will arise, some already exist. In our company, we are gradually forming the position of a neural network trainer, who is engaged in training artificial intelligence to create images, texts and other content in the style of our projects. However, there are copyright issues when artificial intelligence creates content. There are also issues in the field of legislation that relate to artifacts created by artificial intelligence. These are complex and expensive professions, and if fewer programmers of this level are needed in the future, then changes in the industry are possible," Alexey noted.
The expert also noted that to create a perfect image, a unique request is required. There are new professions related to artistic content that arise before full automation. It is possible to create texts, codes and images using artificial intelligence, but there are still distinctive features, and I think this may change over time.
Now streams, like the idea of cinema, have become a key element in the entertainment industry. This means that every month a lot of games enter the market, of which one becomes the leader and brings more profit, while the rest receive a smaller percentage of revenue. Unfortunately, the top of the industry is strongly associated with hits. There are no guarantees of success, so you need to be prepared for failures and not be afraid to make new games.
"The demographics of players in Russia are constantly changing and expanding, and the age of players also varies. For example, let's look at Japan. There, games have long been part of the culture with images, mechanics and everything else, including Mario. It is clear that pixel characters have a cult status and everyone understands them. Our games have recently become popular among schoolchildren, previously they were considered just toys for geeks. Now many people just play or think that games are something secondary. There was a period when games were considered a gold rush and attracted everyone. The young audience of the games is mostly male, and the older audience is female. Different games attract different audiences. But, as in any arc industry, you need to understand its laws and be a professional, despite a lot of examples of accidental success, professionalism is the future!"
