Economics students developed career tracks with mentors
At one of the last classes on the course “Introduction to International Economics and Business” Director of the GSEM International Affairs Office, Prof. Ekaterina Demchenko discussed with the "International Economics and Business" newbies how is it important to get international experience and where is the best direction to study. Students identified which areas of internships they prefer the most and conducted a targeted analysis of the trip. The training combined event marketing, economic analysis and presentation competencies.
Ekaterina Demchenko shared her impressions:
«Classes were lively with the active participation of the students. Offline classes, of course, provide more opportunities for teamwork and student engagement. I hope the topic was interesting and useful, and the questions asked suggest that the opportunities for international education are important and students understand the value of such experience for their career. There were also unusual questions, for example, about education in Luxembourg - that is a good reason to analyze new areas of cooperation for GSEM».
Also, Pavel Kuznetsov, Director of the Center for Monitoring Science and Education, held a large-scale business game to develop strategic thinking.
In turn, senior students of the "International Economics and Business" programme took part in master classes from the corporate partners. Solving the case study from KPMG, the students tried to figure out how the audit plan is drawn up, from whom additional documents are requested to confirm information from the reports, what procedures need to be carried out to issue an audit report. Key speaker on the topic “Analyze that. Analyze this. Who can become an analyst?" was Natalia Telepova, Leading Credit Analyst of Raiffeisenbank. Natalia told her own success story, discussed with the students how to conduct credit analysis properly in a bank and what soft and hard skills are essential for this. Students got lots of gifts for the interactive tasks. The main prize went to the student Felix Dementyev.
Kristina Mykolnikova, senior specialist of the HR management department of Raiffeisenbank, notes:
«As always, it is very pleasant to work with students of this programme, we received not only a great positive charge from the meeting, but also exchanged opinions. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of questions from the students, and a keen interest in the topic of analytics».
GSEM UrFU has a wide network of academic and corporate partners. Every semester, students of the "International Economics and Business" programme enjoy the unique opportunity to receive grants to cover expenses of Short-Term Programmes for Outgoing Students, and also participate in interactive classes from leading international companies.
